So I carved this little carnelian lady and now I have no idea how to set her. Someone suggested open pendant setting but I have been looking at them and not sure how to that would work. Any suggestions?

I am unsure of the orientation you seek, but it looks like she could be hanging on trapeze rings, with her arms loosly through the trapeze rings, the trapeze becoming your “pendant setting”.

That is an interesting idea…thanks. I thought about a bar but I think I’d have to drill a tiny hole where her legs bend, I’m not sure I could get it small enough without ruining the carving.
I have never wire wrapped anything. What part would you wrap?
How about giving here some strategic placed jewelry to hang her from?
Not sure about size or orientation preferences.
Some kind of border wrap, to not cover your carving too much, but hold her securely.
What you do may depend a bit on how and when she will be worn. If worn everyday, you will need something rugged enough to protect her from damage caused by everyday activities. If only as an accessory when dressing up, a much lighter setting will likely work. I have made setting for irregularly shaped objects by creating a border out of heavier wire (round or square), and then added prong pairs at strategic point. A prong pair has point both towards the front and the back. They are then carefully moved (pintched), towards the object until it is kind of nestled in the prongs. Since you carved it, you might consider a few strategically placed small holes that prongs could go into to make the setting evern more secure. A minimalist setting might be just a hole drilled into her head and a pearl type finding could be secured in place. Lots of options. I’m going to try this and use a pearl type prong on her head and between her ankles. I am worried her arms are too thin for anything else.

How are the hardness and brittleness of the material?
If you doubt it, maybe you need to bild a kind of crib that protects her without hiding her?

It’s carnelian so I think she’s good. She will have to be a pendant though, I wouldn’t trust her in a ring.

My brain is seeing her along a bar type necklace, with chain connecting on each end…
…i like your idea of a ring around her…it may add a layer of protection…
what if there was a pierced background within the circle…the circle being the frame
this may give you additional options for securing her…?
she could be…within a “shell”…in front of a lotus…in front of cloud like swirl lines…
there could be elements both in front of, as well as in back of her
ie: a few small gold balls front, something in the back, with her sandwiched in between
perhaps something above her…at her neck…at her ankles…
i am envisioning her (for visuals only) laying on a surface, on her right side, and pinning her to a board, to sort of see how you can secure her unobtrusively…
they would be horizontal pins, with balls on the ends/ tube set 1.2-1.5mm diamonds on the ends
attached to a backplate
it could be more 3 dimensional…or 2 dimensional…
perhaps take a look at how museum quality stone carvings are suspended…to get ideas

Thanks. This is a copy of a piece I did years ago in clay. My first thought was a bar too but I would have had to carve too big of a hole in her to do that.
I like the shell but I think she’d need to match the curve or it might look weird.
I just spent all day fighting with silver to make a circle and base for her so we’ll see… I forgot how much I hate silver!

The figure seems to be in something like the yoga position “the child’s pose.”
If my reading is accurate one idea comes to mind. If, indeed, the figure is to represent the child’s pose, then a necklace which is thematically related to yoga seems appropriate.
The dried stones or seeds of the plant Elaeocarpus angustifolius are called in sanskrit rudraksha, and are used by Hindus and Buddhists as prayer beads and are often worn as protection. You could make a tiny collar of beaded wire to go around the figures neck, and at each side, between the neck and arms, attach it to a necklace of actual rudraksha beads. You might even chase the beaded wire to resemble the texture of rudraksha.
There are plenty of vendors of rudraksha beads and necklaces with internet stores, so that’s the easy part.

I think I would make tiny silver armbands from strip silver (or Gold )with lugs on the back that can be kept closed by jumprings that are also attached to chain ends (ie chain cut at centre point and each end connected to a jump ring )
So that she would hang vertically from her arm bands
then she could face towards wearers body or away.

Thanks. There are two posts on the base, one goes into her head and the other, her knees. I carved them like little screws and added a little dab of Epoxy 330.
