Regulator problem

Hi all,

I just hooked up a two stage regulator to my acetylene tank. I have
been using my air acetylene torch for a while and am now needing to
set up my Little Torch again. So I just attached the regulator for
the Little torch, opened the tank and set the pressure, keeping it
low because I wanted to use one of the smaller torch tips. As the
pressure crept up on the gauge, the gauge hand popped up the numbers
in a choppy way, not smooth. Then when I opened the valve on the
torch, the gauge hand was again popping (audibly and physically)
like the gas was just coming through in bursts rather than smoothly.
So I bled the line and shut it down till I could identify the
problem. Don’t know if that regulator may have had a fall that I
wasn’t aware of while it was not being used. I try to open the tank
valve slowly but don’t know if too quick of tank pressure hurt the
regulator. I have used that regulator for years without any problem.
I will remove it and check for any tiny obstruction. Any thoughts? I
may just need to replace it directly so I can get on with my
project.

Thanks for any info anyone can share!

That may be it. . You can have it rebuilt by your welding supply
house but it usually takes some time. If the means are there, buy a
new reg and have your old one rebuilt, then you have a spare.

Out of curiosity, what are you using acetylene on?

I would contact or take it to the company you refill your tanks. If
they don’t know whats wrong they can tell you who does.Or the people
you bought the regulators from.
