Student of the Week-Daun Hauspurg
by jeanettecaines

Congratulations to our latest Student of the Week-Daun Hauspurg. She
just finished this gorgeous bracelet a week or so ago. We do mostly
bezels for our stones at JAI and this piece is no exception. I like
to think of a bezel as a beautiful frame with the artwork being the
stone. Almost every project begins with making your bezels and good
technique is essential to getting your piece off to the right start.
The most important advice I could…

Wire Wrapped Ruby Sterling Silver Earrings f09e015
by Lava Jewelry

$98.00 I made these unique earrings using a combination of
traditional metalsmithing and wire-wrapping techniques. The
hoop-shaped sterling silver earrings each have a single genuine ruby
dangling in the center. I have wire-wrapped 16 tiny ruby stones
around each hand-fabricated sterling silver frame. The earrings
measure approximately 1 5/8 inches (41mm) in overall length, with
sterling silver ear wires.I now offer niobium or titanium ear wires
at no additional charge for my metal-sensitive customers. The
titanium wires are a dark silver…

“Crested Longtail”, hammer-formed brass bird sculpture
by shelbyvision

Sometimes I spend months or even years working on an idea, and other
times I get a sudden inspiration that I have to turn into
three-dimensional reality immediately. This piece was one of those
sudden inspirations. I had a scrap of silver left over from my

Patania Hallmarks
by Sam Patania

I am a third generation jewelry maker in my family. My grandfather
started in New York City in the 1910’s as a gold and platinum
designer, moved out to Santa Fe, NM due to tuberculosis. He
recovered there and loved the area so much he stayed and started his
first shop on the Plaza diagonally across from the La Fonda hotel in
1927. He then opened a branch in Tucson in 1937. My dad grew up
between Tucson and Santa Fe, and…

Adventures in Knotwork, Part 1
by Jamie Hall

Although I’m mostly interested in the treatment of metals in the
middle ages, it’s impossible to develop and explore techniques
without a grasp of the styles and iconography of the medieval
period. It’s very hard to make sweeping statements about any style
of art, but one style seems to be significant throughout the
pre-modern history of the British Isles. From the work of Pictish
and Celtic masons to the illuminated manuscripts of the
Anglo-Saxons, knotwork is a common and important method of
decoration…

Mia Hebib on object fetish fridays
by k.o’brien jewelry

Using another Friday as an excuse to look at jewelry I covet. This
week I am offering a glimpse of Mia Hebib’s work. I just read her
artist statement and knew I needed to share it here… "I created
Oblik Atelier in 2007, a name that defines my never ending play with
LINE, SHAPE and FORM. Oblik, which means “shape” in Croatian,
embodies my often complex pursuit to preserve simplicity while
keeping a fluid and feminine form. My shapes are…

makin’ whoopie on Halloween eve
by k.o’brien jewelry

Another Saturday brought another late night baking. We are going to
see my niece and nephews tomorrow and I didn’t want to go empty
handed so I scrolled through some Martha Stewart recipes and decided
on whoopie pies. Really, bringing a baked good was just an excuse
for me to have a bowl to lick. Why whoopie pies? Because they seemed
to require the least amount of artistic baking. {This coming from an
artist.} Colored sugar made them festive enough…
