Hi Susan, in Australia!

You can use Diamonds, Rubies, Blue Sapphires and CZā€™s. But no stones with a Mohs scale of less than 9!
Just make darn sure that your stones are free of any inclusions.
Keep your stones free from any dirt lest they might give you casting problems.
