Shoulder issues here. Thank you for your post. I’m researching which rolling mill I want, and realized that it’s more than just about the width of the flat roller or number of wire channels. I’ve been leaning toward the Olivia myself. First, my hydraulic press, then saving my pennies for a rolling mill!
For those interested in the Durston Olivia, Stuller is having a sale, $2,118, which is at least $400 lower than at Rio Grande. I also noticed this:
“Specially designed Patent Pending gearbox along with the inertia of the handwheel means you can turn the handwheel up to 10 times as quick as a standard rolling mill with a 4-1 reduction.”

Greetings,
I have a smallish Durston DRM C100R Mill and while I’d like a larger one the space I have to in which to work is not overly large. I have an economy mill as well which gave good service until I took out a tooth in the reduction gear. The 4:1 gear ratio in the DRM is OK. I take small bites. I’d like a 5:1 or more but I don’t think I have time for a 50:1. That said I am open to trying one out and there is the rub. I can drive to Rochester, NY and see any tool that Wood Worker’s Supply has to sell. But where can I go to look at a selection of rolling mills, hydraulic presses, or centrifugal casters? I have been to Albuquerque and I won’t be back. It is much to hot there for me. I am unaware of any suppliers on the East Coast or even New England. If there is please let me know.
I use my mill mainly to roll sheet and reduce wire ingots to meet my current need for the products I produce. I have to say that a Rolling Mill is the one shop tool I use that I would max out a Visa to immediately replace.

Don, I just sent you an individual message with the email address of a friend who works at Gesswein. She said it was okay for you to contact her. Reach out to if driving to Connecticut works for you to see all of that equipment.
Best of luck!!
Jeff
Don…I made my first big tool buy from Gesswein. Here is their address:
201 Hancock Ave
Bridgeport, CT 06605
Let me know when you want to go…Rob
Rob, I’d love a road trip. Our conversation for the next 3 1/2 hours would be: “Huh?”,.
“What!”
I’ll let you know.
Don.
Thanks Jeff, it’s a few hours away but probably worth the trip. I’ll let you know if I go.
Don
My Gesswein friend said that it would be good to set up up a visit first with her before coming. It doesn’t sound like Gesswein has a show room? (I’ve never been there. So I don’t know?) They’ll have to arrange things ahead of time for you. I’ll let you all work it out. Have fun if you go! Let us know how it goes!
