Crocodile tooth

Hi all

I have been asked to set a crocodile tooth. Not a problem.

But how do I clean it? Yes it is not in the crocodile LOL.

I am thinking of using denture cleaner. Any comments most welcome.

I’d start with- drugstore’s denture cleaner, move up to my
ultrasonic if the first doesn’t work, then an over-the-counter
tooth-bleaching kit if the first two don’t work.

My wife suggests making a paste of baking soda and peroxide or just
use a toothpaste made for canines.

why not use ‘baking soda’, it is an aggressive compound as well,
isn’t it what all cleaners are made of?..Gerry!

Scrape the meat off and you can polish it. They will buff up to a
shine

I have found that elk teeth polish well with Tripoli on a sewn
muslin buff. Crocodile teeth are probably not too different.

When I was an apprentice it was my job to clean the elks teeth to
make necklaces and earrings for the hunter’s wives. I mean hell, you
can’t hardly love a woman more than that.

I would soak them in hot water and scrape the flesh off. Then the
nastiest part was grinding the tops to make them easier to set. The
smell of grinding teeth. Mmmmm. It sticks with you for the rest of
the day. My cousin Eddy the dentist says, insert Louisiana accent
here…" I luuuuv that smell. To me that’s the smell of money
honey!" After grinding a good scrub with baking soda and then I’d
polish with Zam. It does a dandy job.

That reminds me I have to make a mounting for a cat’s fang for my
sweetie Tim. Why? 'Cause I love him that much.

Have fun and make lots of jewelry.

Tooth paste, crocodile teeth might be made differently from human
teeth.

Depends on the look you are going after? rustic versus polished. I
agree it will polish up and sometimes i like the all natural look.
Soap and water for me maybe the ultrasonic if its nasty.

My dentist told me to always wear a mask. Always. He said
particulate from grinding teeth is some nasty stuff.

Bone and teeth are bad. Stuff gets in your lungs and doesn’t come
out.

Use water if you area going to saw our grind.
