If you like hearing about tools/equipment that makes one’s life
easier, this might interest you… Several months ago I ordered from
Gesswein a small soldering pad gizmo called a “Heetrix”. It’s a
replaceable 4 inch solderite disc (with granules underneath you can
also use) in a collar with a short arm, which connects to your bench
with a stout vertical pin which is placed into a hole you drill in
the top of your bench (…it’s starting to sound like “The House
that Jack Built”). Anyway, since I’m shorter, I screwed a small
chunk of wood into the front of my bench that I drilled the hole
down into. It swings in and out of the way with a flick of the
wrist, with the bench pin below. It can also be removed entirely
very easily). If your work is like mine and you need to go from
bench pin to solder and back a lot, this makes it a breeze.
(Sometimes you just can’t do all your soldering in a group!) Don’t
know if the way I wrote this makes sense, but there’s a photo of it
in the latest Stuller tools flyer, AND it’s on sale for a lot less
than I paid for it: $33. Thought you other tool junkies would like
to know…
