A dear friend of mine (Judith Baker, in case anyone is in the market for a terrific painting featuring excellent technique, superb underlying draftsmanship, figuration, scholarship, and actual ideas) says that if you want to sell paintings you must be a man, and it helps if you expel the paint from a bodily orifice onto the canvas.<snip>
I’m married to a figurative painter Murray Schiff, and I can
tell you that being a man doesn’t guarantee selling either! (But
he hasn’t tried using bodily orifices yet.)
If there were a magic way of linking those who want to buy, with
those who can supply what they want, we’d all be somebody else’s
deep pocket customers. :>
