Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts. SF

Granulation is the ancient technique of surface embellishment using
tiny spherical granules of gold. One of today?s modern masters of
granulation, Kent Raible, leads this hands-on survey of this
intricate process. Through lectures, demonstrations, and lots of time
at the bench, you will experience the step-by-step procedures for
this technique. The class will include making a special alloy of 18k
gold for granulation, and how to produce, apply, and fuse granules,
and finish the work. Students design and create one or more pieces to
take home. Students will need to bring at least one half ounceof fine
gold.

Prerequisite: Fabrication 3 or experience.

Kent Raible is a German-trained master goldsmith specializing in 18k
gold granulation. He has gained international prominence for his
elaborate jewelry and objects, which are included in major
collections, such as the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian
Institute in Washington, DC.
