[Workshop] Fold-forming

#1

Hi all, I’m teaching a fold-forming workshop in Calgary in July, if
you are interested please contact me off list at
@Charles_Lewton-Brain. best Charles

July 3-6, 2000: Fold-Forming Intensive

Learn the fold-forming system in this workshop. Fold forming is a
new, quick, easily learned way of shaping sheet metal with hand tools.
Forms are derived from the natural plasticity and ductility of the
metal. Lewton-Brain invented fold-forming, which is internationally
recognized as a new way to work metal. Shaping is extremely efficient
and rapid (many take 3-7 minutes working time). Tools are simple:
fingers, hammers, anvil and mill. Complex relief forms are made from
sheets of metal often on one annealing. They resemble chased,
constructed and soldered forms, and can be made with most metals,
including steel. This workshop lays a solid groundwork of
understanding of fold-forming. Learning from the inventor gives you
the most accurate available on how to use fold-forming.
Almost a hundred folds will be demonstrated during the workshop.
Following the workshop is Stampede, Calgary’s ten-day cowboy party.
Limited class numbers. Materials: Includes copper sheet to work with.
A tool list will be sent to registrants.

Dear Charles: Any workshops planned for the western United States
this fall or winter? I was so disappointed that Interlochen cancelled
you out of your workshop there last October! Had made special plans
to be in the East for that class but life is unpredictable, as well
all can attest to. In any case, I would love to take a class with you
and I am sure I am not alone! Shael

Gold Applications Tucson, AZ

The results of a two year research project for the Society of North
American goldsmiths. It includes fusion applications (gold painting),
doublee, Keum-boo, depletion gilding (tumbaga, guanin), inlay,
overlay procedures and a discussion of fire gilding. Control factors
for free compositional choice are defined and demonstrated. Many of
the techniques work well under enamels as given in a presentation to
the 1993 Enamelist Society Conference in Cincinnati. A free
compositional system. Info from:
