Workbench Plans

Hi all!

I know this subject has been addressed before, but of course I
didn’t need the then and I’m having no luck finding the
topic in the archives. Does someone out there have plans for a
jeweler’s workbench that they’d be willing to share? I have a friend
who would like to build his own, and is looking for a good set of
plans.

Thanks in advance!

Suzanne

I have a setting bench that is actually built into the frame-work of
the stair-well of the basement steps. It even has a folding door to
cover its appearance. This bench IS ROCK SOLID and it is nailed
against the 2" x 4"'s of the framing. I will make some detailed
measurements for you and your friend plus a few attached
pictures…Regards…Gerry!

Hi Suzanne,

There’s a set in the Complete Metalsmith. It really all depends on
the type of bench he’s looking for.

Hi Suzanne!

Two places I know of right away. Easiest is Tim McCreight’s classic,
The Complete Metalsmith.

Lapidary Journal ran a how-to article for a fairly lightweight
foldaway bench. No pounding out conchos on that little flivver.

Best of luck and Merry Christmas! —Dan Woodard

Suzanne,

The workbench plans were for a foldable/portable work bench. They
were printed in a Lapidary Journal Article by Tom and Kay Benham,
contributing editors. I do not know if Tom and Kay are regular
readers of the Orchid list, but they can be emailed at LJ c/o
eric.vanosten@primedia.com and he will see they get the inquiry.
Subject line should be to Tom and Kay Benham, Jewelry Journal, their
regular column.
