Wire mesh

I am looking for a source or sources for wire mesh or cloth in
Sterling Silver and or Gold. I have looked through the archives and
nothing turned up. The next options are looking at companies that
supply the chemical trade for filters and catalysts or weave my own.
Suggestions besides a straight jacket?

Thanks. Bill

Bill, What size and/or density of wire mesh are you looking for? It
almost sounds like you’re looking for sheets of it. I know, for
example, that Metalliferous in NYC has a wide variety of sterling
mesh (they may also have gold, but I wasn’t frankly looking for it),
but most of them are in “ribbon” form up to about 1-1/2" widths, and
in various densities.

Hi, Bill, I hope you find this mesh-- and I hope you’ll be so kind as
to share any answers you find that are not posted on Orchid. I
haven’t begun looking yet, but I will soon be working on a very
ambitious sculpture/jewelry piece (that will be at Mobilia Gallery at
SOFA Chicago this fall. Yeay me.) I need some mesh to make an
approximately life-sized “tea bag” as part of it. Thanks, and good
luck! Noel

Hi Bill, if you have access to casting equipment and you need small
sections of screen it is possible to make a rubber mold of utility
screen and cast it. Just a thought.

Hi Bill, could you do what you want to do by lightly impregnating
cloth with wax, forming it to the desired shape and then casting from
it. It depends on what you want to achieve I guess, but this works
for me when I want a cloth texture. Kind regards, Rex Steele Merten

Karen, I am looking for something that is on the order of window
screen. Sheets at least 6"x6" or 8"x8". My interest is towards
sculptural objects and vessels. I will check out Metalliferous as
the 1- 1/2" width would work for some of the jewelry designs.

Thanks.
Bill

Hi Noel. Rather than wait and wonder about the metal mesh, how
about having a nice cuppa tea, letting the bag dry in its used,
nicely squashed shape, coating it with sealer of choice and making a
Quik-Sil mold of it. Cast the wax therefrom and you’ll have a
lovely, life-like tea bag for your sculpture. All in a day or two.
No sweat. Good luck with SOFA too. Pat

I had read this request and made a search of my catalogs since I
recalled buying some silver mesh about 9-10 years ago. I still have
some among my supplies. I don’t know if that company is still in
business, though they should be, since it did have national
distribution. The following are the telephone numbers they had at
that time:

UNIQUE Wire Weaving Co., Inc 908-688-4600
762 Ramsey Ave. 800-445-
6912
Hillside, NJ 07205 Fax 908-688-

They also list gold mesh in their small catalog.

I hope this is of some help to those who expressed an interest in
precious metal mesh. Do let me know if you are successful. Joe Dule

Hope these are not duplications, but here is a list:
