I made a pendant with two attachment points, sort of a “Y” shape with loops on the two top ends. But except for a few very thin (1.2mm) “component” chains, nobody seems to sell chains that will accommodate hanging this rather heavy pendant from 2 loops. (I’ve tried doing it myself - cutting and soldering ends on a rope chain, but this resulted in ends that have fused together into a rod on either side.) Does anyone know of a supplier who offers reasonably heavy chains set up this way? I like the way the pendant hangs when it’s hung from two loops instead of one, and I’m surprised that chains like this aren’t easier to find. Am I just looking in the wrong places, or is this something I need to hire a jeweler to do for me?
No one sells chain this way. Chain is sold either in bulk, i.e. a length cut from a spool, or already made up in standard lengths. You’ll need to make up the two halves yourself.
Happily for you, there is on ganoksin just now a little tutorial on different ways to finish the ends of a chain. Perhaps they posted it just for you.
I tried the search bar option and didn’t find a tutorial.
How and where can one find this tutorial?
Thanks!
The tutorial is here: How to Finish a Chain End - How-To Video - Ganoksin Jewelry Making Community
You have to be a Ganoksin member to watch it. I am, and did, but it’s essentially what I tried to do that didn’t work for me. It mentions an air-acetylene version of the Little Torch that doesn’t seem to exist, which might be part of the problem, or perhaps the chain I tried to modify had more free solder than hers, but I found this more difficult and frustrating than it appears to be in the video. I’d rather concentrate on what I can do well, and leave this to someone who’s better at it.
Thank you, for the link to the video. This kind of small work is challenging for me.
On another note, there are Little Torches that are air-acetylene. I have at least one out of the many
I have. If you are looking for one let me know. ![]()
