Does anyone know what white metal alloy (not pewter) was used for
casting small metal sculptures in the 1800’s?
Thank you!

German silver?
I would suggest Britannia metal or spelter as the white metal. These
are Bismuth/lead/tin alloys similar in behaviour to pewter but with
slightly differing melting points and hardnesses. Another common one
was just tin. German silver is another name for nickel silver and
unlikely to be the material used for castings.

Hi Nick: Any suggestions as to where to get these alloys? Have tried
a few metal suppliers w/ no luck…
Thanks! – Trish
Hi, pure tin shouldnt be too much of a problem but you will struggle
with the others because they contain lead.
