I’m downsizing my jewelry shop and need advice about where the best place is to sell my surplus tools and supplies. I have items in the following categories:
Fine silver wire, sheet, bullion and bezel
Granulation spheres in 22K gold and fine silver
Rolling mills
Torches
Hand tools
Is there a specialized jewelry related site or is eBay my only real option?
Take the metal to a reputable refiner like Hoover and Strong or Elemetal. There may be some FB pages dedicated to selling jewelry tools, otherwise Facebook marketplace. You need to have pictures, prices and how to deliver before you try to sell things. You may also find buyers on ganklsin if you have pictures, prices and shipping details sorted out. Good luck…Rob
Hi! I understand taking scrap metal to a refiner but it seems like a waste to take brand new fine metal wire and sheet to the refiner when we pay so much extra to have it made into wire and sheets. And the granulation spheres are prohibitively expensive… SPM is charging over $500/dwt for gold spheres these days. I need to find people who want to get these materials at bargain prices.
There are quite a few destash groups on Facebook. These are a few I’ve purchased from with positive experience…
Jewelry Tool Garage Sale
JMG Jewelry Tools for Sale
Jewelry/Engraving Tools Recycle
If you have a comprehensive list with prices, you could also share it with this group.
I’d truly love to see what you have for sale! Since I’m based in California, they would need to be shipped—would you be open to that? If so, just let me know!
I also wanted to share a few other great places where you could post your items. Facebook Marketplace is always a good choice, but there are also some wonderful specialized groups like Metalsmith Destash and JMG Jewelry Tools For Sale. Or, if you’re interested in supporting the next generation of makers, you might look into the Silvera Jewelry School Tool Marketplace. The students there would be so grateful for the chance to buy quality tools at a fair price, and nice way to see your tools go to a home where they’ll be truly cherished.
