I found this jewel encrusted bird that I found very intriguing. I am trying to find out what this type of art is called and what techniques the jeweler used to bejewel the organic shape of this bird. I am trying to do a similar project if anyone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
It’s hard to say with exactitude without knowing more about the piece, age size, maker, etc., but at first glance the stones are bead set en pavé.
Depending on the materials they may be bead set black diamonds and rubies or they may be hematite and pink glass glued into a false bead setting. The bird also seems to have been plated in black rhodium, which means at least it is a contemporary piece, not an antique.
The beads look unnecessarily large in the photo, but not knowing the size of the piece one cannot say whether they are genuine raised beads or simply masquerading as such.
Thank you so much this helps!
It sure has the look of costume jewelry with glued in place black and red czs. It reminds me of the Swarovski crystal jewelry that the Zale Corp used to have to sell after Swarovski took over Zales.
