hello all! I am finally getting around to making a personal piece 
I want to combine the sapphire from my original engagement ring with the diamond from my mother’s. I’ve seen a lot of trendy toi et moi recently and am afraid of feeling like I jumped on a bandwagon; really i’ve been wanting to combine these stones for years. I have some ideas but would love to know if any particular design screams at you when you see these stones together. I am open to setting them both east west, north south, combo, etc. Prongs, bezels, anything! I have typically not loved toi et moi with two stones of the same size simply sitting next to each other, maybe some sort of bypass situation would work? I just want enough finger room to also wear a wedding band. Help me get my creative juices flowing?!
Those are some good looking stones. I am no professional stone setter and I won’t pretend to be one. A couple questions I have,
Do you want the ring to be simple or extravagant?
Would you like it prong or bezel set?
I have no clue what your skill sets are (sorry if that comes across wrong) so my best answer would be to add a little more info. I assume that if your working with diamond your pretty good.
As said before I’m not a good stone setter or designer, my first successful attempt is below. Don’t know if you can do cut down shoulders on ‘toi et moi’.
Hopefully I can help a bit in the future, suppose the beauty of stones is ; if you don’t like the setting, rip the stones out and start again. Regards- Michael
thanks michael, I am in love with these stones! and I’d say your first successful attempt is pretty beautiful. to be honest, I’m pretty new to this myself, so I’m still considering designing the ring but having someone with more experience set it, I’m very afraid of ruining this one! I’m usually partial to bezels, but have been liking claw prongs more and more, as long as the stones are set as low as they can go. I just want something really unique, with unexpected features, but not too trendy. Maybe that’s impossible? 
Well, unexpected features… you can go anywhere with that. Also, you can make a list of “styles” of sorts if you want to stay in some particular style ( floral, natural, designer, minimalist, boho, etc.). That may be able to narrow you down a bit.
