I started learning silversmith jewelry as a hobby at the School of
Visual Arts in New York City 8 years ago. I became my instructor’s
apprentice by the second semester and eventually her assistant until
2 years ago when the school offered me a teaching position. I have a
passion for teaching; it gi ves me the opportunity to share what I
know and at the same time it challenges me to endlessly learn more
and more. I can spend hours and hours completely unaware of time
with my students teaching and learning and problem solving design
and fabrication issues.
I financially depend on my 9-5 job (I work as a pediatric
occupational therapist)but I am starting to scale it down so I can
dedicate more time to teaching and to develop a website to showcase
my work and possibly in the future learn how to create a business.
It is a pleasure to be joining the Ganoksin Project and hope to be
contributing to it soon.
Thanks,
Ruth Santana

Hi All,
Getting my new shop set up for some silver work. Am somewhat new to
this and don’t have time to take classes. I figured this would be a
good place to get some tips.
