Deborah Gillaspie
Chicago, IL. USA
I’m still working my day job as jazz librarian at the University of
Chicago, but I do hope to retire (assuming my TIAA-CREF improves –
if not, I’ll still be here when I’m 90.)
For about eight years I’ve been working in polymer clay, and have
been privileged to study with people whose work I admire. I’m also
an admirer/collector of the work of Ford/Forlano, and I’m indebted
to Steven Ford for his kindness. It was observing how Ford and
Forlano’s polymer work evolved once they started collaborating with
metal artist Maryanne Petrus-Gilbert that led me to realize that I
needed to study metalworking.
I just joined SNAG, no more buying Metalsmith magazine off the
newsstand! I’ve been a subscriber to Jewelry Artist for several
years, and also get Art Jewelry. I’m enjoying my copy of Oppi
Untracht’s “Jewelry: concepts and technology” and I readily admit to
buying a lot of books, but they’re good ones!
I’m hoping to learn from the experiences of all of you! Already I
need to say “thanks!” to Charles Lewton-Brain and Tim McCreight for
the beginners’ they’ve posted to Ganoksin, I’m finding
it very helpful.
Your colleague,
Deborah Gillaspie
