Weird setting question

Hello everyone! A friend of mine asked me to make this ring and I
can’t seem to find the proper setting style for it. He wants a
wax-carved ring IN which I have to set a 1mm-thick tear-shaped opal.
The opal has to be set at the bottom of the shank and nowhere else.
The design he gave me showed a squarish ring, so I thought of
carving a 2mm-thick bottom, drilling a 1.5mm hole the shape of the
opal at its center, setting it with grains and emerizing off the
grains so they end flush with the inside ring. Do you think it’s a
good idea? If not, do you have a better one?

Please write me back…

I hope you have warned this person that with the opal located on the
bottom of the ring it will most surely break and I hope that you
decide to use a setting style that will allow you to replace it on a
regular basis as you most surely will.
