Vendor Day re-cap

For those of you who came to Vendor Day, many thanks for your
support. We raised $261 for Orchid, CERF and SNAG. This makes a
total of $382 for the year.

It would be nice for future events, to have a flyer that I could
pass around, informing people about Orchid. If you have any ideas
for content, please email me offline.

Thanks again.

Karen has a good point. As rich and varied as our Orchid community
is, I’m still amazed to find that otherwise savvy jewelry people have
never even heard of Orchid! Granted, there are folks who still insist
the world would be a better place without computers, but I’m not
talking about them. There are really good, and relatively successful
art jewelers who are oblivious to our community’s existence. We
should all reach out to them, promote our community and try to bring
them into the fold. I’ve scribbled “ganoksin.com” on the back of more
than one of my business cards!

I can put together a brochure in Microsoft Publisher format, if
people want to work with me on content and design. What thinkest
thou, Hanuman?

Dave, probably all we need is a little flyer or maybe even just a
small business card for ganoksin.com, something we could print off in
one sheet (could hold a dozen “cards” on a sheet to be cut apart)
that we could give to someone we think would be interested. But I
agree, it would be awfully nice to have something. I, too, have
informed so many people about the existence of orchid - while I am
not in business, per se, I do fabricate an awful lot of jewelry and I
have learned an incredible amount from all the wonderful sharing
partners of orchid.

This is a great idea (having brochures to hand out on Vendor Day).
Here’s something else to consider, which would avoid "fulfillment"
hassles. This has worked well on another list (parents association
for Naval Academy students) that I’m a member of – we have a hard
time reaching all the parents.

On the web site for the list, we have business cards and post cards
that you can print out OR email directly from the page. Members are
encouraged to download and print out on their own printers the
business cards, which have basic info about the list(s) and how to
sign up… then they are asked to give them to other Naval Academy
parents/families they run into who aren’t on the lists.

Perhaps something similar could work for Orchid? Low overhead, low
hassle, potentially big returns.

Hello- I’m a graphic designer by trade and have been taking
jewellery classes on the side for a few monthes, which is why I
signed up for Orchid. It would be my pleasure to help out in this
project- at last, something I can help with!

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested,

That’s a great idea, Kay! I think there may still be justification
for a three panel brochure (?), but the business card sized
“handbill” might be more convenient for unexpected encounters. I’m
preparing for a three day show this weekend (in my home town!), so
will put some more thought into it next week.

All the best,

Dave

Dear everyone, this was the problem I ran into when planning and
promoting the Tucson dinner. I had several request for written
about Orchid but, did not feel I had any authority to
produce such a brochure. It would have been most helpful. Perhaps it
could be something that can be printed off the net and handed out in
the small quantities I feel required. I would have a few on hand and
have the ability to get myself more when I again start up the dinner
planning. Of course these are all good ideas but, who will do the
work? Stone soup. Sam Patania, Tucson

Thank you all for another great idea. I will work on a printable
version of a brochure, and will offer it online for those
interested. All graphic creations / suggestions are welcome

Hanuman

hi sam… perhaps the best “brochure” for orchid is the website.
offer it and after a day or two they can see for themselves whether
it’s something they want gifting their inbox. that’s all it took for
me and i thank you orchid!!! you too sam for your hard work… maja

If you would like to give me the content, and any graphics to
include, I can hand this over to my very cabable studiomate who does
all the graphics for our ad in Metalsmith and for our brochure. She
is fast and has a good eye.
