Thanks to all who offered suggestions. I found the similar product
’Polymorph’ on Ebay at a cheaper price than Maplins and have some on
order, however, a couple of list members subsequently mentioned that
the same stuff (as ‘Plastiform’) is used by the medical profession
for conforming splints such as the ones they use after nose jobs.
That got a big Dohhhhh! from me as one of my good friends is an ENT
and plastic surgeon and I hadn’t made the connection before - I could
probably have got as much as I want for free!! :O(

I found another source that may be of interest: Middlesex University
Teaching Resources (www.mutr.co.uk).

They’re asking =A310.29 for 500g. You’ll need to sign up in order to
place your order but it’s just a one-pager.

I noticed the UKP symbol got mangled. FWIW that price is 10.29 UK
pounds.
