Two-sided display?

I have just had two pieces accepted to an exhibit (called “Enemies”–
the pieces are my two “anti-war medals” from the Velvet Da Vinci show
that traveled in Europe for two years, but that no gallery in this
country had the courage to host. But I digress…). I need to furnish
them on a display, as this is not a jewelry exhibit, and anyway I
offered. One of the pieces (you can see them both at the V. da V. web
site http://www.velvetdavinci.com/, pages 10 & 18 of the Anti-War
Medals exhibit) is a reversible pendant, and I’d like to display it
so both sides can be seen. Any suggestions how to mount it? It will
be in a one-foot-cube glass vitrine.

Thanks!
Noel

Noel,

Congrats on the show! (I found your pieces actually on pages 11 and
18 - very nice work, as usual! I always love your stuff.) I’m curious
as to whether the bar part of “Wolf in dove’s clothing” is Arabic and
if so, what it says?

My suggestion would be to use a small shadowbox that uses glass on
both sides instead of a backing board. The piece can be suspended
between the two glass panels using your choice of fishing line (for
invisibility) or chain if you prefer to show it that way.

Hope this helps!

Hello Noel,

you could put it on a slowly rotating disc that is driven by a
motor. The motor could be powered by a solar cell so that there is no
need to change batteries.

Cheers,

Put a mirror in the back of the display cube and you will be able to
see both sides.

Noel, could you put a mirror behind it to reflect the back or reverse
side? Or must it be viewable 360 degrees?

Noel check out the local craft supply stores (michaels etc) for
small battery powered turntables or check out Graingers for a low rpm
motor ( i have one that turns at 7rpm) and make your own turntable.

Hi Noel.

.... a reversible pendant, and I'd like to display it so both sides
can be seen. Any suggestions how to mount it? It will be in a
one-foot-cube glass vitrine.

I’ve had necklaces suspended from the top inside to display in such
cubes. They had clear suction cups attached to the top and the chain
was attached to filament hanging from the hooks of the suction cups.

Hi Noel,

How about a sheet of clear acrylic (plexiglass) cut to fit snugly in
the diagonal of the display case and with a cut out to allow your
pendant to hang free in the centre? Alternatively a minimalist wire
hook fixed in a wood or plexiglass base and rising and curving over
like a banana hook to support the pendant. If the case can only be
viewed from the front, put a mirror behind the pendant. Nice
work…

Best Wishes

Uh, no, it is supposed to be stylized barbed wire…
Thanks for the suggestion!

Put a mirror in the back of the display cube and you will be able
to see both sides.

Not if it is lying on a neck form or velvet pad, as jewelry usually
is! The question is how to hang or otherwise mount it with both
sides exposed, attractively, without distracting from the piece.

Noel

How about an acrylic neck form? I’ve seen some that are quite
attractive.
