Hi In days of yore before fancy deals we used to mix our flux
(or?) with alcohol, then light it leaving a thin layer on the
piece, after soldering drop it hot into the pickle. I haven’t
seen firescale in 25 years.
Try twisting a single strand of square wire or half round with
the flat side out alittle different design
