While it’s possible to put a dab of solder between the ends to fix a
break in the wire, and I’ve done so in the past, this particular
repair would have been too awkward. I don’t know for sure that I’ve
got the exact color of yellow gold wire to just swap a small section
in without it showing, even with the solder joints hidden under the
crossings, and a soldered spot in the twisted wire would have stuck
out like sore thumb at the location of the break. I opted to just
replace the entire center strand:
As it happens, this method, while taking longer by the clock, was a
lot less trouble than fiddling around with cuts and solder joints.
