Tumbling with stones in place

Rita, I vote yes. I’m guilty of tumbling all sorts of things
I’m not supposed to, due to production schedules. Just this
month, in fact, I tumbled a pair of 18K earrings set with
rhodolite garnet cabs. (small barrel tumbler, stainless mixed
shot [about a cup] w/ 2 squirts dawn dishwashing liquid, water to
1/2 inch over shot) Not for long! 30-60 minutes - just to bring
up that high shine. I would NOT do it in a vibratory tumbler,
and wouldn’t tumble faceted stones, or cabs with inclusions
(unless they were easily replaced).

So, we are to assume that you are using rotery (sp?) not a
tumbler that vibrates but one which goes ‘round and round?’ : )
