Hi Marian
Why not cover the stones by brushing a layer of rubber cement or
laytex over the top and then peeling it off later. Rubber cement
"crumbs" would pick up with a piece of masking tape (or any tape
really) and latex should just peel off like the elastic stuff it
is! Hope this helps a bit.
