[Tucson 2008] Orchid Dinner Silent Auction

Dear Orchid Community,

It is time for me to make my annual pitch for DONATIONS to the Tucson
Orchid Dinner Silent Auction. This is the seventh year, I’ve been
handling the logistics of the event, but it is you the Orchid
Community that makes it happen each year. This is totally a family
affair—if we all do a small part, then the event becomes more
successful and the Orchid family gets stronger.

For those of you new to the forum, the silent auction works like
this. Orchid community members donate something—a new or used tool,
a subscription, a service, a piece of jewelry, stones, raw materials,
books, DVDs, etc. Anything that is found in a studio works for the
auction. Those people lucky enough to go to the Annual Tucson Orchid
Dinner, get to bid on the donated items and all the money raised goes
to Ganoksin.

I know many of you think, “I haven’t got anything suitable” (trust
me, everything goes), “I’m too busy” (make the time --you have 7
weeks), I am not going to be there" (be there in spirit). Every
donation is important, no matter how small. All together, the
donations can be substantial.

In addition, think of all the businesses and products that get
mentioned on the forum in a year. Many of you out there know the
owner of one of these businesses either personally or by virtue of
buying from them, ask them to make a donation. After all, they are
getting free advertising in the best marketplace there is.—a
marketplace full of jewelry makers and doers.

I’m only one person with only so many contacts, but with all of you
out there pulling together, WE can help with the support of the
silent auction and ultimately with the support of Ganoksin.

You can get in touch with me via email with any ideas or suggestions
or with Ganoksin directly to make a donation. I will give more
specifics on how to get donations to the silent auction venue in the
up coming weeks. Until then, have a wonderful holiday season.

Dear all,

About a month ago I posted a request for donations for the Orchid
Dinner Silent Auction.

To date, three people have responded to the posting. Please, pretty
please, help Orchid out with a donation. Think “GREEN”. Recycle one
of those tools in your studio that you never use anymore. Let
somebody else pay to take one of those items that is cluttering up
your space. I know that if I call you personally and ask for a
donation, you are more than willing to help the cause. However, it
is ever so much more practical for you to contact Hanuman or me
directly one time, than for me to make 50 or so phone calls or
emails.

I know we are a generous but very busy group.

But please take a little bit of time to think about the silent
auction and how you can help to make it a success. You can donate
something new, something used, a service, a gift certificate, a
subscription, a workshop, some stones (cut or rough), a DVD, a book,
etc, etc. Once you have a donation in mind, then we can arrange to
get it to the Orchid Dinner. You can send it to me, you can carry it
to Tucson and I’ll pick it up at Catalog in Motion, or you can even
drop it off at the Dinner. Just let me know what the donation is, so
I can plan for it.
