[Tucson 2006] Orchid Dinner Silent Auction

Dear Orchid Members,

Each year a silent auction is held at the Tucson Orchid Dinner to
raise funds to help maintain the high costs of Ganoksin’s servers
Titania and Soi11. These servers house thousands of technical
protocols, video, Bench Tips, Galleries and the Orchid Archives.

Members of the Orchid community make great donations to this very
worthwhile annual event. The silent auction creates a lively
interaction between orchid members with furious bidding among
participants as well as raises money. Donations come from “newbies
to giants” in the jewelry profession, as well as companies of all
sizes. Both new and used items are acceptable. Here’s a great
opportunity to clear out your studio of those odd-and-ends, and help
support Orchid at the same time.

Hi all,

Its that time of year again where it is my personal commitment to
the Ganoksin Project to help make the Tucson Orchid Silent Auction
as successful as possible. To do this I need help from anyone that
benefits from this forum and that is a lot of you out there in
Orchid Land. Some of you help the Ganoksin Project throughout the
year but many of you do not and this is your chance. The wonderful
part of the silent auction is that everyone that participates is a
winner! If you are a retailer and you donate you get some publicity
(send cards with your donation). If you donate a tool or book that
just takes up space in your studio you gain a little room for
another tool or book. If you donate some of your finished product,
you get an audience to see your work. If you donate a workshop or a
service you get someone who will spread the word about your program.
If you donate a subscription or membership you probably gain a new
customer. Those of you who are the winners at the silent auction
usually get a “deal”. And to top it all off, “ALL” money raised goes
to the Ganoksin Project.

So I would like each of you to think about how you can contribute to
this year’s Silent Auction and let me know what that contribution
is. Then you can mail it to me. You can drop it off at the front
desk of Catalog in Motion by 3PM on Feb 3. You can call or email me
to make arrangements for me to pick it up from your booth at the Gem
Show. How can it be easier?? Any ideas you may have on how to
improve the silent auction–how to get more donations, make more
money, run smother, etc. are much appreciated.

There are some members of this forum that I can always count on for
their help. I really appreciate you guys/gals and you know who you
are. Just a reminder, it is easier if you contact Hanuman or me than
for me to email/call each of you. Your help in this matter is
greatly appreciated.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Hi everyone,

I am looking forward to seeing many Orchidians (Orchidites?) in
Tucson! (I will be at Rio Grande’s Catalog in Motion showroom at the
Argentium booth.)

I would like to remind everyone attending the Orchid dinner that the
silent auction is a fund raiser for a cause that is dear to all of
us. I encourage everyone to think in terms of making a donation to
Orchid by “over-bidding” on items that you would like to have, rather
than trying for bargains. The Orchid Dinner silent auction is a time
for “over-spending”, in the most positive sense of the term possible.
It is a time to be proud of over-paying!

Remember: Bid high! See if you can get that tool you want for twice
the retail price—that will be all the more for Orchid!

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2006 to all,

Cynthia Eid

Believe it or not, today is the first day since the Orchid Dinner
that I have nothing on my calendar but to thank all the wonderful
people who participated in the 2006 Tucson Orchid Dinner Silent
Auction. People participated in many ways, some donated items, some
bid on items and some donated time during the silent auction itself.
It takes a lot of people to make this event a success-and every year
Orchid members pull together and make this event a worthwhile
moneymaking event. Hanuman & Ton would love to thank everyone
individually and in person but that is impossible. So I would like
to let the Orchid community, thru this forum, know the names of all
the people who helped this year.

First, I would like to thank my two good friends and helpers-Dolores
Mano and Brooke Miner. They have been helping this effort for a
number of years now and I couldn’t do it without them. And then I
need to thank my wonderful husband Terry, who supports me
emotionally, financially and operationally with my various volunteer
jobs, including Orchid over the years.

I attempted to compile this list with as much accuracy as possible.
Doctor’s are not the only profession where signatures are hard to
decipher. Please excuse any mistakes. Once again my thanks to all who
were a part of this event.

Dear all:

I was not able to make the dinner this year as I was on standby to
pick up someone from the airport… but I sure hope that everyone
there thanked Pat Glover for all her hard work - having been for the
last few years, it is no small undertaking and Pat has clearly given
countless hours of her time. So, THANK YOU PAT! I hope to make it
next year
