[Tucson 2005] Catalog In Motion

How hard is it to find a place to stay in Tucson for the Catalog In
Motion show etc,. if one flies there without a hotel reservation?
Are there good deals to be had on accomodation and ot transport?

Thanks Peter

Most people who seriously wish to attend any of the tucson show
activities find they must book their hotel or motel rooms many months
in advance. You might still get lucky, but I’d bet that at this
point, it will be difficult indeed, and it’s doubtful that you’ll
find anything one might call a good deal, at least not from the
hotels and motels anywhere near Tucson. Now would be a good time to
try talking to others who are going, to see if you can find someone
who might be willing to share the room they already have, to cut
expenses…

Good luck
Peter

After you arrive at a hotel all transportation to other hotels is
free, as there is a shuttle service.

Peter, let’s just say that it’ll give new meaning to the punch line
“…And, boy, are my arms tired…!”

(Sorry - I couldn’t let that one go by… Too easy…!)

You definitely should make arrangements for accommodation. It’s not
a good idea to wing it…(Hah - another one! )

I’m sorry, folks…I need my nap…

While this is true, you can get a place to stay 30-60 minutes from
Tucson, and it is worth the drive each day.

The first time I went with my wife with no reservation, the first
night we stayed at the No -Tell motel. Found something better the next day.

It is still possible to find affordable rooms in Tucson during the
gem show. In the last week, at three different times over three
days, I queried Orbitz and expedia for rooms. I found some the first
time for $145/nite. A bit high, but I’m sharing with a girlfriend.
Then, I tried again, no luck. The third time I found six or seven
hotels with rooms at $100 per nite, in a more suitable location.
It’s possible, just get your reservations before you go. They seem
to be loosening up a bit right now.

See you at the Orchid dinner, yea!!

Just a reminder that earlier this year I created an “About Tucson”
page on my website with info on favorite eats and places to stay,
things to do…

Looking forward to the dinner and meeting folks!
