Tools Yak

Red said, (hey that rhymes)

I am in the market for several large
tools at the moment. A 3600 lb air hammer and an induction casting
unit

What’s a 3600# air hammer used for? Would a steam hammer do, John Henry
may have one (bg).

Oh dave you are so witty. The air hammer is also known as a trip hammer
and is used in making damaskus steel, or in forming steel of any sort.
Saves you the arm power of banging away all day with a 4 lb hammer. It has
a contact plate area of about 6" by 4" and will strike with varying degrees
of force at the operators choice. A real time saver but LOUD. RED

LOUD, you got that right! There was a blacksmith shop about 2 blocks from
where I grew up. I can remember laying in bed as a kid listening to the
smith doing a forge weld on some piece of broken farm machinery about
10PM.

That’s what I thought. If you’re serious about needing (wanting) one try
Sobel Machinery, 93 Garry Rd., Closter NJ 07624, 201-768-9645, FAX
201-768-2842. He’s a used machinery dealer that sells to alot of hobbyist
& small machine shop operations. I’ve never done business with him myself,
but have talked to lots of folks who have; he’s good to deal with.

There’s also an industrial liquidator here in Tucson, I’ll see what he
has, but the freight might be mor than the machine.
