Tiny kiln for glass

I require my students at Florida International University to visit
Ganoksin and write a review. They are all very impressed by what
they find.

I saw a tiny kiln for glass slumping that worked by being placed in a
microwave oven several years ago. Now that I want one I can’t find
them anywhere. Does anyone know where to find these? Thank you.

There was recently a question about a similar kiln for PMC firing
posted on the PMC Guild forum. The answer from Rio Grande was that
such kilns are not sold in the U.S. because of safety issues.
Apparently one test with PMC melted the housing on the microwave! I
don’t know if this is the same kiln you saw for glass slumping, but I
suspect the same issues would apply.

To read the full answer to that question, visit the PMC Guild Web
site at www.PMCguild.com, click on “resources” and “bulletin board.”
I believe the question was posted under the “finishing and firing”
topic. It was within the last 30 days, so should be current on the
site.

I use a Paragon Quik 6 kiln for my glass. It plugs into 120, is a
bonnet style so I can lift the bonnet slightly to view when I’ve
achieved the effect I’m wanting.

Wholesale it runs about 259.00; comes w/ 2 kiln shelves & kiln wash.
I put it in a box & take it w/ me when I travel.

I tried to find one of these a couple of years ago and was told
they’d been withdrawn from the market because they were too
dangerous. I too would like some hard data, if anyone has it.

I hope you all had wonderful holidays! I missed you all so much!
