A Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose. or is it?
It is said of Mae West–a true jewelry lover–that she spoke the most
original phrase about jewelry in her first film, Night After Night. A
hat-check girl gushes over her and says, “Goodness, what beautiful
diamonds,” to which Ms. West replied, “Goodness had nothing to do
with it.” Ya gotta love old Mae.
And then there was–not much more than 6 years after the Mae West
comment-- Queen Nazli, queen of Egypt and mother of King Farouk. She
had the facility to elevate opulence to an art form. She is said to
have owned one of the largest jewelry collections in the world. She
was considered the richest and most elegant of them all.
Which brings us to a choker of no mean worth. It is described as
being huge. though I know not the dimensions. It is described as
having baguette diamonds along the border and it is described as
having pav=e-set diamonds ensconced into two life-size, three
dimensional roses though no designer is mentioned. We don’t know who
done it folks. This is back in 1938 and for all we know … it might
have been me. Who knows what talents I might have brought with me
from a previous existence? Not even The Shadow knows that. and he
know a great deal.
In reference to this last statement. I do remember… upon exiting
that most secure and warm place of extreme comfort. making the
statement to the doctor who slapped my ass that I thought the world
of jewelry and diamonds might be a rather quaint and pleasing
direction to take when it was time for me to finally pursue a career
of choice. So surprised was he at my ability to speak at such an
early stage that he nearly dropped me right then and there. which…
if it had happened. would most assuredly have ensured that you would
not be reading this.
But all that is neither here nor there. nor even elsewhere. What
this is all about is a floral pave-set choker whose worth must surely
stagger the imagination. Parenthetically. I do not have the value
listed either. Actually. if you analyze this whole Tidbits. for
which I have written a tad under 600 words. you may well and
rightfully take the position that I know almost nothing about it. Of
course. I would not mind a little credit–just a wee bit mind
you–for having written all this about a subject I know almost
nothing about. It’s quite a feat… wouldn’t you say?
But let us not get to the nitty-gritty of this whole thing… and
prepare for the grand viewing. So then…

And there ya have it. That’s it for this week folks.
Catch you all next week.
