The best craft shows for Minnesota

I need some advice from anyone who sells their jewelry at art and
craft shows. I am looking for the best listings for Minnesota with
contact and maybe even a review of the show. Who of the
fellow Orchidians is from the Minnesota area with some advice for me?
The Minnesota Horse Expo sent me the data for vending there but at
this time in my career it is just a little to expensive for me to
gamble on.

Thanks so much
Jean

Hello Jean, I do some of the art festivals in MN. I have limited
myself to the Minneapolis area because there are so many there and I
have friends and family I like to visit there. Currently, the shows I
have applied to are on Zapplication, such as the Edina Art Fair, The
Stone Arch Festival, and Uptown.

Some other shows I will likely apply to are Excelsior and
Powderhorn.

Last year, I did The Wayzata Art Experience… it was an experience.
The staff was nice, but it rained and the city was designed to flood
where the show was set up. It was also very small town, so even
though it was a suburb, many of the people came out to socialize and
said they usually buy at some of the bigger shows. I found 2 other
shows closer to home (Central Iowa) that I applying for instead this
year.

I have done Edina for the past 2 years and it is my best show, but
long. I did the Stone Arch for the first time last year and it was
ok, and I was told it takes a couple of years to get established with
the locals. I have not done Uptown, yet, but it is the really big
jewelry show in the area. Powderhorn and another show happen at the
same time, so you have choices. I have heard good things each year
about Excelsior from other artists.

Hope you get into all the shows you apply to!

Jean, in descending order are the shows that I have done and think
are best. But everyones experiences are different. I work mainly in
sterling and 18k gold and precious stones. My average sale at an art
fair is in the $200-300 range. I don’t do small town fairs. Other
jewelers I know have great success doing them.

  1. Uptown Art Fair
  2. Powderhorn
  3. Loring Park
  4. Edina
  5. Excelsior

I also do a couple of one day shows that have worked well as well as
my own home show

Do you have a copy of the current issue of Minnesota Arts Directory?
This publication, published 2x/year, gives all of the variety of
craft shows in the 5-state area, their attendance figures, admission
procedures and contact persons. I recommend that you get a copy of
this, and if you can’t find one I might have an issue left so you
could phone me.
