The Art of Gold

A visit yesterday to see The Art of Gold exhibition at the
University of Richmond, Richmond, Virginia was a jaw dropping
experience. The curator Michael W. Monroe did a fantastic job on the
selections. Please all of you that are in geographic range make an
effort to see the mighty representation of studio goldsmiths. A
catalog is available.

The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) organized the tour.
The opening location was the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento,
California. After Richmond the show travels to The Arkansas Arts
Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, the Mint Museum of Craft and Design
in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Anchorage Museum of History and
Art in Anchorage, Alaska.

This is a once in a lifetime experience.

I know I’m posting too frequently these days (resting my
still-sprained ankle and trying to avoid my problems), but I want to
add an enthusiastic “second” to Cathy’s post. I feel soooo lucky that
I was able to take the train to Sacramento and see the Art of Gold.
If I’d realized how astounding it was going to be, I would have
planned to go earlier and would have gone at least twice. If you can
do so, do, because I can almost guarantee that you will want to. And
a million thanks to everyone who did all the hard work that made it
possible!
