Temporary lighting for bench

Hello Orchidland,
A while ago I posted about using a bar clamp to suspend my Dremel flex shaft. Pleased with it.
Another problem with my temporary bench is inadequate lighting. The ceiling is very high and this is a new apartment. Really don’t want to scar the walls and ceiling with mounting a 4 ft. LED shop light.

The idea light flashed - let’s try using two bar clamps to suspend that shop light over the bench. Bought a second 24 inch bar clamp just like the first and using “S” hooks, attached the chains on the ends of the shop light. The chains allow adjustment of the distance between the light and bench. The power cord is very long and is plugged into a wall outlet.

Now I have bright light over my work area and it’s adjusted to a height that is below my eye level so that I’m not ‘blinded’ by direct view of the light. An alternative is to permanently mount 24 inch pipes to the bench top - I am happier with less stuff mounted that can get my way. The clamps can easily be moved.

See photos attached.

Clever!

Judy,

Have you noticed yet how in the shop the word temporary is often a synonym for permanent? I liked your solution and you say it works well. I would add a small visitor to the lamp between you and it.

Good luck and have fun.

I hung a 4’ LED shop light above my bench too. I love it! I hung mine with shelf brackets mounted on the wall. Those shop lights sure are bright!
