TAFE stuff

Dear concerned Orchid members. I write this at the direction of
the TAFE Executive. Thank you for your concerns regarding the
changed circumstances of the Jewellery Trade Course. My initial
assessment of the changes has proved to be unfounded -even more
so since I have had a meeting with the Director of the Sydney
Institute of Technology, Ms Marie Persson and the Director of the
Business Studies Faculty, Ms Sue Hanley, who have both assured me
that there will be no changes to the Jewellery Trades curriculum
or the manner of its delivery. Rex Steele Merten

who have both assured me that there will be no changes to
the Jewellery Trades curriculum or the manner of its delivery.

Good news, Rex. I notice the demise here of process in favour of
concept. Students in NZ have very little choice if they want to
learn jewellery, concentrate on jewellery the craft and the the
art. De-skilling is the result. Work made at Bachelor level tends
to be in the area of cheap-to-make ‘installations’. No post-grad
opportunities yet.

See you in Sydney end of Sept.

Dear Rex,

Glad to hear so. It is my hope that this decision was taken without looking
upon the various reactions from the Orchid net, but on the other hand I
would also love if our reaction did anything to move the desk-wallahs.
Congratulations, anyhow.

Kind regards from overcast Denmark with summer temperatures around 20 deg.
