Surgical Steel Long Earring Posts

Hi all. I’m looking for.030" surgical steel earring posts 1/2" or
longer, either without a pad or one that I could cut off. I’ve
Googled my fingers off to no avail. Is there such an animal? Thanks
a lot!

Try Manchester Minerals of Stockport England.

Just curious as to why you would want a post that long. As a wearer
of post earrings myself, the longer posts are very uncomfortable. I’m
a receptionist by day and spend a lot of my time on the phone.
Cradling the handset to the shoulder puts a lot of pressure on the
earrings and I get jabbed often. Not my idea of comfortable!

If you are holding the phone handset with your shoulder, this puts a
lot of sideways pressure on your cervical vertebrae that will lead
to chronic neck and back problems, if you don’t already have them.
See if your manager will spend the $ for a headset for you. The cost
of a headset could save them ten thousand times as much in personal
injury claims/downtime/retraining. This is a good selling point =)
Also, earing post will no longer jab you in the shoulder.

You’ll never guess - try Dick Blick. The longest is 10mm, but that
should be close enough to 1/2". They have pads.

Hi Allen,

They shouldn’t be hard to find, our local bead company has them. Is
0.03" (0.762mm) or “long” a non-standard size?

Dentist suppliers have surgical steel wire in various diameters for
making braces. For the cheapest stainless steel wire, boating
suppliers or yacht chandlers have stainless steel cables which are
described as for example 24x0.7mm which means 24 strands of 0.7mm
wire; in a wide range of strand diameters. Buy a meter or yard of
suitable cable and unwind a strand as needed. This may or may not be
’surgical’ but is certainly stainless, is hard and springy, and the
downside - it unwinds in a spiral shape and has tiny decorative dents
evenly spaced along it.

Good luck, Alastair

Hi All. Thanks for your responses to my search for 1/2" long earring
posts, but I still haven’t found them. I believe the .030" diameter
is standard, but I want the extra length to give me more room to
create a secure attachment to the type of earring I want to create.

I’ve suspected that I might have to make my own, but I’d sure rather
not. I hope one of you brilliant Orchidians will come through!

Allan,

I took a look at your website and I really like your work, but some
of your ring sizes surprised me. Who do you sell to, basketball
players ? Size 15-1/2 silver rings and matching size 18 silver
sneakers ?

Only the US and Canada use our ring sizes. I have what I assume is a
standard ring equivalent chart at my (incomplete) site.

to post, but I guess it will get pulled if not.)
