Borax is not sold here; even as a detergent booster. What can I use as a substitute when I melt silver for ingots? Hope you can help. Thank you.

There’s an excellent book by Christine Dhein called “Eco Jewelry Handbook” An alternative for Borax would be Boric Acid mixed with denatured alcohol. I hope this helps. The book is available on Amazon.

You should be able to use boric acid instead of borax for your melt.
