Stone repair

Are there any lapidary folks in the Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania area that would be willing to take on a repair job. I
have a lovely azurite/malachite cab that has a 8 mm surface scratch on
the top,( the stone itself is about 40mm.)that needs to be buffed out.
Please contact me off list

Lisa, Its easy to do yourself. Azurite/malachite is a very soft
material. Start by hand sanding using wet or dry paper. If the
scratch is deep your may need to begin with 320 going to 400 then 600
grits. Do this with a little water for lubrication. Rinse well
between grits. Use a soft muslin buff with ZAM for the final polish.
Give it a try. Zam is a great polish for most materials up to 6 on the
mohs scale. Marcus Amshoff

One additional comment… Keep the stone wet at all times - even
during the final polish - and wear a respirator. You don’t want to
breathe copper carbonate dust! -Pete-
