[Source] Unusual shapes stone beads

Hi there:

I’ve been trying to source a number of unusual shapes in high
quality stone beads, but have yet to find a supplier that stocks
these shapes, e.g. top drilled (front to back) 10-14 mm beveled
octagons, 9 x 34 mm facetted drops, in the appropriate stones, e.g.
topaz, quartz, corundum, etc.

Given that I was wondering if any of you either knew of a
supplier(s) that carried unusual, well cut stone beads, or had
worked with a supplier to have a series of stones custom cut to your
specifications…If you have placed a custom cut order in the past,
do you have a sense of what the minimum order size usually is and
how costs tend to change with such an order? I haven’t been down
this road yet, so any advice would be greatly appreciated…

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, Amy. Again, let me recommend Earthstone
http://www.earthstone.com. The one you can find on the web is CA
based and different from the one that I visit at shows (NY-based).
However, apparently they are run by brothers and have access to the
same materials. They have unusual shapes, unusual stones, and their
“difficult” stones - fluorite, kyanite, etc - have the best polish
I’ve seen at shows. They are not particularly pricey, and if you can
go to a show and look at their materials, you will probably be
delighted. Even the website of the CA company will give you a good
idea.
