[Source] Red gold tubing

Hello All,

I am trying to source a supplier of red gold tubing - preferably
18k. I have made it once, but I would prefer not to have to do it
again!

I have tried DH Fell, Hoover and Strong, Imperial, and references
though the Ganoksin site.

If any one has had success finding a current supplier or making red
gold tubing and would be willing to share their method/contacts I
would appreciate this very much.

My experience involved making three different kinds of tubing during
the same time frame - 18k red, yellow, and palladium white. The p/w
and y worked fine but the red gold was difficult to solder ( I used
DH Fells 18k easy wt. cadmium - their recommendation). And although
I tried to follow the correct annealing and quenching advice I have
received, the end of the tubing kept breaking off when I tried to
draw it through the plate (and the solder joint kept opening up).

One might ask - why not use something else? Believe me, I am
considering this. However, for the time being, I would like to try
to solve this problem.

All the best,

Donna

Try the John C. Nordt company,They make gold tube…

I have made red gold tube before and the big problem was the
technique for annealing as the copper can tend to make it brittle
and crack…

R-Findings in Rochester, NY sells a fair number of red gold findings
and settings, so perhaps red tubing as well. Alternately, have you
considered casting your tubing, then drawing to the appropriate size?
Or boring a hole through heavy wire, and then drawing?

You could try Hauser and Miller or Hoover and Strong.
