[Source] pewter pellets

Any hints on where I can buy pewter pellets in the states to have
sent to me in Japan where I teach art? I have been getting my
material from Sax Art`s and Crafts, but they seem to have been
bought out by some other educational company and now it takes 6
months or longer to receive materials, and often they lose the
orders etc.! Very frustrating.

Two names to look for that occur to me. I don’t have contact info
handy, but I’ll bet google or the Thomas register web site can fix
that easily enough. check both Belmont metals, and Oster metals.
Oster, way back around 15 years ago, is where I last bought pewter
sheet. Belmont is another major supplier of a number of “white
metal” alloy types, including pewter. As to shipping to Japan, I
have no idea, but those are the two companies that occur to me
first. Good luck.

Rio Grande sells pewter in bar form. It is easy to melt in a cast
iron fry pan on the hot plate. Then you can make your own pellets. If
the bars seem too big to work with, just cut them in two with the
heat of your torch, catching the dripping metal in the pan. It’s easy
to work with. I make gravity-poured cast objects with it, small
vessels, spoons, etc. Lots of fun!

At the lapidary store I worked in pewter pellets were made by
holding a pewter bar with a thick leather glove. A torch was played
on the bottom of the bar and the resulting drops of pewter collected
in a metal pail full of water.
