[Source] Hairsticks

Thanks to all of you who have so kindly given me advice about
different things. One more question: Does anyone have a good source
for hair sticks? I am looking for hair sticks that have a hole in
the top and looking for someone who sells large quantities for a good
wholesale price.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Try Rings-n-Things https://www.rings-things.com They have several
different wooden ones. Search the site for “hairsticks” from the main
page.

Fire Mountain Gems also has a bunch of them, different
materials–wood, bone, metal, etc. http://www.firemountaingems.com

I purchased some lovely wood hairsticks with holes on top on Ebay. I
just did a search there for “wood hair sticks” and the same person
has an auction up that ends in two days (today is 8/9). The starting
bid is $3.50 for 10. I have found that usually no one else bids on
these auctions.

Try the Rhode Island findings manufacturers.Did you want base metal
or precious? If they aren’t online they will have a catalog and send
samples(minimal fee). And they probably will want to have you order
by the gross. Look in the phone book for manufacturers Metal City
Findings in NY,NY might have them. Can’t remember who I used to buy
them from.

Good Luck!

I don’t know of wholesale prices (Rio Grande may sell them-I didn’t
look in my catalog), but I do know for a fact Fire Mountain Gems
sells them, with reductions at different levels of quantities. They
don’t do wholesale, but the prices are low enough it’s not too bad.

Also, I forgot to ask – does anyone have tips about how to attach
and precious metal findings and gems to the top? I assume that I
would just use glue and a very thick stick pin, but if anyone has any
advice, I’d be grateful.

If you are making metal hair sticks, try making rivets out of your
choice of tubing-brass, copper, silver-slice off 1/8-1/4" and set it
in the appropriate size drilled hole-punch it with a small dapping
punch(to just fit into the inside rim of the tube) and you have the
two peices cold joined-a large piece may need more than one rivet.
They can be very neat and clean if you debur the edges, etc.
