[Source] Colored Tubing

Does anyone know of a resource for colored tubing. I have seen some
jewelry pieces at Pistachios in Chicago, that used this wonderful
tubing in shades of lime green, red, orange, etc. it is very flexible
as well as translucent. Definitely not rubber, maybe neoprene or
something like that. It is hollow tubing as well.

Any help would be great.

Hi Jackie

Does anyone know of a resource for colored tubing.....

I haven’t purchased any of it, but I do remember once seeing colored
tubing in an electronics store. You might check there.

I think what you might be seeing is annodized aluminum. If so, you
can contact East West Dye Com in Virginia (800) 407-6371. They have
all sorts

of interesting shapes, even sheet in many colors. In case you didn’t
know - it has to be worked cold.

Hi Jackie,

The MS Company in Attleboro, MA just sent me a bunch of samples of a
new product they are offering–it is some kind of tubing in very
bright colors and wrapped in a very light open-weave mesh of, I
think, silver.

I’m sorry I didn’t pay more attention to what it actually is but it
wasn’t something I was interested in using. I can send you their web
address if you want to try and get a sample from them. Maybe the
stuff you saw was this.

HI Jackie,

How big was the tubing - it wasn’t the kids plaiting stuff -
Scoubidous was it? These are long, thin plastic tubes up to about
1/8" diameter and of all kinds of colours. You can find them in
packets in toy stores. Since the craze has now firmly hit the UK I
see them in every street market and discount store as well. I had
thought that, cut into short lengths, they would make interesting
embellishments on jewellery like the contrast between fine gold and
cheap brilliantly colourful plastic. Has anyone else used these in
jewellery already?

Best Wishes

The item you are refering to is rubber cord with a mesh of silver.
If I remember correctly, the colors are very bright and neon. It is
available in both finished chain and on bulk spools.

There is brightly colored tubing as well as mesh covered tubing in
the Rio gems catalogue.
