[Source] Argentium Sterling Chain

Hi there,

Does anyone know of a supplier of Argentium chain?? I am a bit
worried about using silver chain with Argentium findings, I believe I
read a few weeks ago that there is a reaction if the two are in
contact with eachother.

They discolour or something of that nature. Please correct me if I’m
wrong, and I really hope that I am. I would really appreciate any
replies.

I am a bit worried about using silver chain with Argentium
findings, I believe I read a few weeks ago that there is a reaction
if the two are in contact with eachother.... They discolour or
something of that nature.

I’ve mixed the two metals together on projects and never had a
problem. In particular one projects was to replace all the ear wires
of a woman’s silver earrings with Argentium Sterling (AS) ear wires.
I’m in close contact with her and the only thing to note thus far is
that she’s much happier with the AS ear wires (she reacts badly to
regular sterling).

As to the discoloration question, might you be thinking of AS being
contaminated by buffs used on regular sterling? That is known to
lead to discoloration issues on AS due, it is assumed, to copper
being transferred to the AS via the dirty buffs.

Other than that I don’t think I’ve heard of regular sterling
staining AS. I suppose it could happen if the two were to rub against
each other a lot but if the earring example I mentioned above is any
example it seems more of a theoretical concern than a practical one.

Sorry, I don’t know of an AS chain supplier. If you find one I’d
sure be interested to hear about it.

Thank you so much for your reply, I work with Pearls, Crystal beads
and Semi precious beads, I will be using Argentium findings to add
them to Sterling silver chain because I haven’t been able to source
Argentium chain as yet. There will be a certain amount of rubbing
between the headpins and the sterling chain, but not a huge amount.
So
you do not feel there is much need for concern, “that’s great” !!
Thank you sooo much!! and yes, I will of course let you know if I
find a source.
