[Source] 28 Gauge Gold filed wire

Hello all!

Does anyone know where I can find 28 ga. GF wire? I desperately need
it but cannot find it anywhere. I called Rio and they said they can
do it for a minimum of $2200! This is way TOO much $. Please if you
know of anywhere this can be purchased i would greatly appreciate
ANY info!

28 is out of stock at the moment – you might call them to see when
they’ll get more.)

Hi Laura -

I have been looking for 28 gage goldfilled wire for years with no
success. I don’t know what the process is to make it or why the
manufacturers only go down to 26 gage, but I can’t believe 28 gage
goldfilled would suddenly be so impossible and expensive to produce.
I have so many jewelry designs that end up having to be done in
silver because the drilled bead holes are just too small for 26
gage, and buying 14k in 28 gage is just too expensive.

I’d be willing to go in on a special order for 28 gage goldfilled
with a group of people. If I got 10 ounces of the wire it would
probably last me the rest of my life, and if we got a group order,
the price might end up being affordable split between many.

The two of us can’t be the only jewelers in the world looking for 28
gage gold filled. If a manufacturer could just start producing this,
I’m sure there would be a market for it. I would also encourage wire
manufacturers to write in and tell us why this is such a difficult
and expensive project, and if they would be willing to consider a
group order. Perhaps Rio Grande or a fabricating company could
collect names and and when they have enough people
signed up they could do a batch of 28 gold filled and contact
everyone on the list.

Christen, that is such a great idea!! I think we got lucky though
because many people wrote in on where to find it. However i would
still be happy to go in on a huge Rio order. I bought some on
ebay…but not a lot. The Rio order is like $2500 minimum. I would
pay $500…so if others are interseted let us know!
