Soldering tibetan silver

#1

Is it possible to solder tibetan silver (zinc)?

Liz

#2

Yes, it is possible, Tibetan silver is a zinc copper alloy and will
solder with a white metal solder (tin/bismuth/zinc). The plating will
need to be cleaned off from the area you want to solder to. Having
said that, I cannot see why you would want to undertake such a task
as it will undoubtedly be better in the long run to replace whatever
is broken.

It’s not to repair something. I’m interested in converting a pendant
into a link or attaching a piece to a ring.

Instead of soldering, try setting the piece with a bezel as if it
were a stone. It’s a decent way to use most anything that shouldn’t
or can’t be heated.
