Soldering silver plated material

I have a technical soldering question I could not find on your
archive pages. My question is, is it possible to silver solder
silver plated sterling silverware together after it has been cut
apart? Would the silver plate run off while trying to solder it
together? It needs to look fairly finished as it is ultimately a
peace of jewelry. If it’s possible, could you tell me what to use
to accomplish this task.

I am a crafts person and not a jeweler and would greatly appreciate
any help you could give me with this question.

I have heard of this being done, using a low temperature solder.
However, this is a very difficult soldering job, and since you say
you’re not a jeweler, it sounds like this might be too difficult for
you right now.

The easiest way would be to solder it and have the whole piece
re-plated. Silver plating is not very expensive.
