Soldering sheet metal together

Karen, I"ve never tried Mokume but, when I tried Damascus steel
projects I found that, after forging everything together, a nice long
slow period of heat and then a long slow cool down (in vermiculite or
ashes) greatly reduced the build up of stresses in the metal. If,
after the forging work is completed with Mokume, the metal is allowed
to do the same thing, it seems to me that the built up forces within
the metal would be greatly reduced. (As Jim Binnion described in
solid state diffusion work.) I’d really be interested to know what
effect this process would produce as it’s all theory with me. One of
these days I may wish to try mokume.
